North Elementary Edition

Afternoon Pick-up and Morning Drop off

At North Elementary we have noted some increased traffic during pick up and drop off from directions other than our regular procedure. This is complicating our process and creating safety issues. It is very important for the safety of our students and an orderly process that parents picking up or dropping off use the car rider line and not park and come inside for pickup. Except in emergency situations. We are usually able to get the car rider line cleared in 15 minutes when everyone goes through the car rider line in the afternoon. When parents try to pick up to skip the car rider line, it actually slows us down as all our resources are diverted from the normal procedures, making the wait longer for everyone, by as much as 10 more minutes. If parents come in after 3:15 for pick-up please understand that we may not be able to get your students if it is not an emergency any faster than if you were in the car rider line. In the morning, parents who drop off coming from different directions instead of waiting in the car rider line also slow down the car rider line and create more safety concerns. In the mornings, if we all come through the car rider line, not a single car has had to wait even 5 minutes that arrive after 7:35. Please see our “car riders” policies as noted in the handbook. Thank you for understanding, these policies are for safety. We understand there may be exceptions and emergencies.

Book Fair…A Huge Success!

The library is excited to report that we had a very successful book fair last month! Students, teachers, parents, and grandparents supported generously! For every dollar spent at the fair, $0.50 of it goes into our Scholastic account where we can purchase library books, supplies, and shelving from the Scholastic Store. Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our book fair!

Library Book Swap:

The library would like to invite everyone to participate in a book swap during the month of December. Please bring in any gently used books and swap them out for new-to-you books. Students may bring in their used books to the library starting December 1st. We will collect books for two weeks and then students will choose their “new” books during the week of December 17th-21st during library time.

Parent Teacher Committee (PTC)

The PTC will host their annual Family Movie Night on Friday, December 7th. Be sure to check out the PTC Facebook page for details. In addition information will be sent home this week. The PTC is excited to try out the new popcorn machine at the event.

Grandparent’s Day 2018 Recap:

This year, North Elementary reworked its Grandparents day protocols, and the following is the survey recap from grandparents about the event:

a. 332 grandparents attended conservatively.

b. Teachers reported overwhelmingly to have liked: splitting it up, the tour guides, the amount of time allotted, and activities in the room.

c. 4 people felt splitting up the event was not worth the advantages.

e. Grandparents liked: organization of the event, the parking, and the events in the classroom. They loved seeing what their grandkids were doing in class, loved meeting teachers and seeing the building.

We anticipate expanding on the positives and getting more check out registers for the book fair. Thank you, grandparents, for your support of our students and attendance at grandparent’s day. It was a special day for the students, and your support of the book fair raised over $3,000 for our library.

Winter Concert Scheduled:

North Elementary winter program,“Rock Around the 50’s” will be held on January 22nd and will feature grades 3-5. The first flyer has already been sent home, so please make sure you are checking back packs. Mark your calendars! We can’t wait to entertain you!

Winter Break:

Dec. 21st is an early release day. This day will include classroom fun, and popcorn with the principal for students of character and perfect attendance students. We will also recognize December students of character on the 21st.  Have a safe and happy break. School resumes at normal time on 1/2/2019
